Responsible Gambling

Responsible Gambling

Gambling should always be an enjoyable form of entertainment, never a source of stress or financial difficulty. If you play Blue Wizard or any other slot game, it is important to set limits, know when to stop, and be aware of the support available if gambling stops being fun.

Set your limits

Before you start a session, decide how much money and time you are willing to spend. Most licensed casinos offer built-in tools to help you manage this, including deposit limits, session time reminders, loss limits and cooling-off periods. Use these tools. They exist because they work.

Never chase losses. If you have reached your budget for the day, stop playing. The outcome of the next spin has no connection to your previous results – slots use random number generators that treat every spin as an independent event.

Warning signs

If any of the following apply to you, it may be time to seek support:

  • You are spending more money or time on gambling than you intended.
  • You are borrowing money or selling possessions to fund gambling.
  • You feel anxious, irritable or restless when you are not gambling.
  • You are hiding the extent of your gambling from family or friends.
  • Gambling is affecting your work, relationships or daily responsibilities.

Support organisations

Gambling Helpline NZ – Provides free, confidential advice and support for anyone affected by gambling, 24 hours a day. Visit gamblinghelpline.co.nz or call 0800 654 655 (free text 8006).

Problem Gambling Foundation – Offers free counselling, advice and support for problem gamblers and their families, nationwide. Visit pgf.nz or call 0800 664 262.

Multi-Venue Exclusion – New Zealand’s existing self-exclusion scheme, run through the Problem Gambling Foundation and the Salvation Army, lets you exclude yourself from physical casinos and gaming venues. A dedicated register for online casino self-exclusion is being introduced under the Online Casino Gambling Act 2026, due no later than 1 December 2027 – until then, ask your online casino directly about its own self-exclusion tools.

Self-exclusion at individual casinos

Every reputable licensed casino is required to offer a self-exclusion option. If you want to block yourself from a specific site, contact that casino’s customer support or look for the self-exclusion option in your account settings. This is separate from Multi-Venue Exclusion and applies only to that individual operator.

If you or someone you know is struggling with gambling, please reach out to any of the organisations listed above. Help is free, confidential and available around the clock.
